Abstract

Communication and transport infrastructure as one of the influencing factors on economic development, through the movement of goods and passengers, increases the possibilities of access to regional welfare and facilities, and therefore in the development process Economically, it has a very important and influential role; At the same time, it is also affected by the process of economic development. For this purpose, the hubness index ,Accessibility index and potential market index have been used to investigate the impact of transportation infrastructure on the economic growth of the cities of Khuzestan province. The research data for the period of 2010-2019 for 27 cities of Khuzestan province is in the form of panel data, which was used to investigate the temporal and spatial effects of the generalized method of moments (GMM). The results of the research show that if there is a 10% change in the size of the hubness index in the largest cities of Khuzestan province, 4.4% of the gross domestic product per capita will decrease. Also, in case of a 100% change in the size of the hubness index of the cities of Khuzestan province, 7% will be added to the size of the largest cities of Khuzestan province. Also, based on the estimation results, if there is a 10% change in the size of the largest city of Khuzestan, about 20% will be added to the gross domestic product of the cities of Khuzestan province. Also, the indirect effect of the largest city's hubness index on GDP is positive and equal to 0.12. The evidence of this research shows that the spatial and temporal development of the city of Khuzestan province was not in accordance with the hubness index , and it seems that the cities that have the capacity to be a pole are on the sidelines.
